Why true spatial presence requires radical reduction, stripping away decorative pretense until only honesty endures.
It is remarkably easy to make an object look intricate. Add a fluted rim, introduce a decorative boss, texture the surface with patterned tooling—and the eye is easily distracted. It is infinitely harder to leave a single plane undisturbed, eighty centimeters long, completely unadorned, relying entirely on the tension of its bevel and the quality of its finish. In a world saturated with visual noise, emptiness is the rarest luxury. When an interior contains only what is essential, every breath feels deeper.
