Between Intention and Chance

In the blueprint phase, an architect demands perfect millimeters. But the moment the chisel engages natural stone, nature asserts its sovereignty. An unmapped vein of iron oxide or a hidden pocket of calcite can cleave an edge in a way no CAD software could predict. Earlier in my practice, this used to evoke panic. Today, it is welcomed as collaborator. The flaw is where the work ceases to be an intellectual concept and becomes a physical reality with a character of its own.
